Masters seminar “Versailles: a history in perspective” from the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (laboratoire DYPAC)

With a view to making optimum use of the wealth of heritage treasures and scientific resources near the location of the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, this course has been designed to give students the opportunity to take on a complex subject, the Palace of Versailles, encouraging historiographic debates and transdisciplinary research.

Whereas all students is able to sharpen their critical awareness by testing the site’s evocative power by making comparisons and opening up the historical perspective, modern history students can also choose to do their dissertations on subjects relating directly to the resources of the CRCV. The visits aim both to explore research tools and to examine in detail the functions of spaces that have become common areas.

Coordinated by Pauline Lemaigre-Gaffier (Lecturer in Modern History, ESR-DYPAC Laboratory) as part of the UVSQ Research into Cultural and Social History Masters course, the course is organised in collaboration with the CRCV. It is open to students enrolled on the UVSQ Research Masters course as well as all students on the History Research Masters course run by the Universités d’Île-de-France.
