“Versailles: museographic and cultural choices for a major heritage site” - a thematic seminar by the École du Louvre

Organised for around twenty students from the École du Louvre, this seminar will alternate between talks by specialists and visits to Versailles, with the theme “Versailles: museographic and cultural choices for a major heritage site”.

A leading heritage, cultural and tourist centre, Versailles – its palaces, its grounds and its collections – is a place of historical significance which must be both preserved and made available to a wide range of visitors. How can these contradictory imperatives be reconciled?

As well as visiting the site and some of its less well known treasures, staff responsible for the sites and collections will give an insight into the constraints they face, the methods they employ and the issues involved; in other words, factors governing the choice of materials for the restoration and refurbishing of the buildings and gardens, the enrichment and presentation of the collections, visitor reception and cultural dissemination.

The seminar is coordinated by Benjamin Ringot, Project manager Research of the Centre de recherche du château de Versailles.

For this academic year, the seminar will take place from March 11 to 15, 2024.
