Research grants

Submission of applications for a “Centre de recherche du château de Versailles Research Grant”

As part of its mission, the Centre de recherche du château de Versailles (CRCV) offers annual grants based on scientific criteria to assist and support original research projects that fall within its subject areas.

Relevant disciplines, themes and periods

Priority is given to researchers working in the field of human sciences (history, history of art, literature, musicology, etc.) and projects relating to the following themes: methods of exercising power; the structure and functioning of parish institutions; practices, attitudes and male figures; representations of power; palaces (architecture and urban planning, decor and furnishings, collections, etc.) and gardens (layout, plants, water system, etc). The time frame for the study of these themes, which can help to shed light on present-day patterns of behaviour, is broad in scope (from the 16th century to the 19th century) with a strong geographical focus on the courts of Europe.

Eligibility for grants

All applicants must be enrolled in a French or foreign university at a Master 1, Master 2, doctoral or post-doctoral level (theses must have been defended within the previous two years). The applicant must submit a scientific dossier including a research proposal of approximately 10,000 characters together with two letters of recommendation.

This dossier is examined by a committee composed of the director of the CRCV, the CRCV scientific director, the president of the CRCV committee, and, when required, other qualified persons. This committee meets every year at the beginning of October of each year.

Applications should be sent (by post or email) before September 30 of the year of award to:
