Prosocour Database (networks and sociability)

This database is part of the “Networks and sociability at courtof France, 17th-18th centuries” research programme led by the Centre de recherche du château de Versailles, under the direction of its Scientific Director, Mathieu da Vinha.

The aim of this tool is to be able to enter, analyse and visualize prosopographic data that will shed light on networks and sociability within the Court of France in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Centre de recherche du château de Versailles aims to understand the networks that were formed within the Court, notably by studying the classification of roles, their history and how they were transmitted in an attempt to understand both the mechanisms of social ascension and the hierarchy of the royal houses.

The chronological field covered span from the reign of Louis XIV to the end of the Louis XVI period. The data are be compiled based on lists of roles within the royal houses of the Court of France and the various figures who held them and are be supplemented by biographical information and information on the various types of links established between people, the aim being to examine and visualise the networks within the court.

This database will be accessible via the Centre’s resource portal.

The research data management solution Polaris OS, developed by MyScienceWork, has been chosen by the CRCV to set up the navigation, research and analysis platform.
